Get SLOW with Frits Van Eeden
If you’ve been to Downtown Melbourne in that past year you’ve probably walked by SLOW Gallery X Fashion, but have you been inside?
SLOW Gallery X Fashion offers a progressive, modern view of art. Sometimes you’ll find dark, energetic paintings and sculptures while other times you’ll see whimsical and humorous works. In addition to the gallery, SLOW sells fashionable pieces of clothing and accessories, many from local designers.
SLOW Gallery is best known for introducing up-and-coming artist to the Space Coast while at the same time showcasing established talent. It’s an active gallery, featuring at least one or two shows a month while adding a contemporary and edgy point of view to the Brevard art scene. Artist and Owner of SLOW Gallery, Chris Maslow is introducing “different concepts and artists to bring more interest to SLOW Gallery” which in turn will bring more interest to art in Brevard County. He reaches out to nationally known and emerging artists through art shows, gallery openings and online then sees where he can fit them into upcoming shows.
In September, SLOW Gallery and world-renowned artist Frits van Eeden are teaming up to do installation pieces of some of Frits’ most well known work. You can expect to find the equestrian paintings that Frits’ is so well known for along with nature inspired pieces and possibly some sculptures. Chris has given Frits ‘free range’ to work off the vibe of SLOW Gallery which will allow him to use the entire wall to show his work. Chris also plans on using this opportunity with Frits to launch an Internet showcase where visitors can view all of the displayed art online.
The collaboration between Frits van Eeden and Chris Maslow is the result of meeting at art events around the county and through mutual friend Maria Storman, of Eau Gallie Florist. Frits liked seeing the “young, energetic, off the wall” graffiti art that Chris is known for and from that they decided to bring together their two worlds. The show at SLOW Gallery won’t be an extension of Frits’ local gallery but a chance for him to “try new things” and open up his work to a much broader range of art enthusiast.
